Building Capacity for Impact: Relief International Africa Trains CSOs, CBOs, and Media in Port Harcourt

Education | August 12, 2024
As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening local capacity and enhancing grassroots development efforts, Relief International Africa recently organized a comprehensive capacity-building workshop in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The workshop was specially designed to empower Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and media practitioners with the skills and tools necessary for effective development communication and advocacy.

Themed “From Ideas to Impact: Strengthening Voices for Development,” the training focused on three key areas:

Report Writing,

Campaign Crafting, and

Proposal Writing for Development Projects.

Participants were taken through intensive sessions that explored the art of crafting compelling narratives, packaging advocacy messages for public engagement, and writing winning proposals that can attract donor interest and support. The sessions were led by seasoned facilitators with years of experience in development work, media engagement, and strategic communication.

The workshop not only offered practical, hands-on learning opportunities but also provided a platform for dialogue, networking, and collaboration among grassroots actors and media professionals. This synergy is essential for amplifying local voices, highlighting community needs, and holding government and development actors accountable.

By investing in this kind of strategic training, Relief International Africa is reinforcing its mission to build a more informed, equipped, and proactive civil society sector capable of driving sustainable change at the local and national levels.

The event concluded with participants expressing renewed confidence and readiness to take on the challenges of development advocacy with greater skill and professionalism. Many lauded the workshop as a timely intervention, particularly as communities continue to grapple with issues that require well-coordinated citizen-led actions and effective stakeholder engagement.

This initiative forms part of a broader effort by Relief International Africa to support inclusive governance, civic engagement, and sustainable development across Nigeria and the African region.
