Relief International Africa Launches Human Rights Clinic to Champion Justice and Dignity

Human Rights | July 20, 2025
By Green Isaac

In a bold step toward deepening the protection and promotion of human rights across Nigeria, Relief International Africa has officially launched its Human Rights Clinic.

As the Executive Director of Relief International Africa, I had the honour of speaking during the launch event, where I highlighted the urgent need for such an initiative in a society that has long grappled with systemic human rights abuses—dating as far back as the colonial era.

The Human Rights Clinic has been established as a safe space where individuals can seek legal advice, access redress for human rights violations, and engage in rights-based education and advocacy. It aims to tackle challenges such as poverty, inequality, discrimination, domestic violence, and injustice, which continue to affect millions of Nigerians.

I stated during the event:
“Everyone deserves to live a life free from fear, oppression, and injustice. Nigeria has witnessed numerous human rights abuses throughout its history. Some of these violations began during the colonial rule—from the late 19th century to 1960—where forced labor, land seizures, and institutionalized brutality were commonplace. Sadly, some of these patterns have persisted even under democratic governance.”

The establishment of the clinic represents a significant milestone in our organization’s commitment to human dignity.
“This clinic is not only a hub for legal aid and empowerment, but also a platform for systemic change. It stands as proof of our belief that every individual, regardless of background or status, deserves protection and equal opportunity to thrive.”

Our Human Rights Clinic will provide a wide range of services, including:

I extended my gratitude to all the organizations and individuals who have contributed to making this initiative a reality.
“None of this would have been possible without the collaboration and passion of our partners. Your commitment has brought us to this important day, and I am confident that, together, we will make a lasting difference.”

As we embark on this journey, we do so with resolve and the knowledge that we are not only creating a service—but inspiring a movement.
“Let us remember that our work is about real people—real lives, real dreams. It is about recognizing their humanity and fighting to ensure that no one is left behind.”

The Human Rights Clinic is now open and ready to serve, offering hope and justice to communities that need it most.
